The erstwhile minister of Information, Labaran Maku, has debunked allegations and current news going on air that he has returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he dumped for the All Grand Progressive Alliance (APGA) in the 2015 to contest the Nasarawa State governorship election.

It was earlier reported that Maku made it open that he would run under the same party in the 2019 governorship race.

Speaking to journalists in Andaha, Akwanga Council, while unavailing billboards constructed by his supporters in Nunku and Ningo communities, congratulated the PDP in the state for zoning the governorship seat to Nasarawa North.

According to him, “When I was in the PDP, we worked hard to ensure Nasarawa West had its eight years tenure and then Nasarawa South had its own without the North contesting until 2015, when by agreement, the position was supposed to move to the North

“In 2015, religion was used to manipulate the zoning arrangement and Yusuf Agabi from the South was forced on the party during primary, so I decide to dump PDP for APGA to challenge injustice of marginalizing the North,” Maku lamented.

The former minister who was expressing his passionate grief stated that his move to challenge the non-compliance with the zoning arrangement has changed the political equation in the state today, lamenting that the reason why Nasarawa North has not held the position is not because there are no competent and qualified people from the zone, but because some few elites believe people from the zone should not rule the state, saying the zone was not part of the agreement from the time of creation of the state.

Maku called on all the political parties in the country to zone the governorship seat in 2019 to the North in the spirit of fairness and brotherliness.

Apart from the PDP, APGA has also zoned the governorship to the North, but the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains uncommitted, despite appeals from its chieftains from the zone to follow suit.
